Ernestine Howard Dickerson, age 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2019 at the Munday Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1922 in rural Haskell County to Oran and Merle Ridling Howard.
She attended school in Lake Creek and graduated from Weinert High School in 1939. In 1940 she married Doris Dickerson in Durant, OK and they made their home in Munday except for a time during World War II. He preceded her in death in 1989, just a few months short of their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Richard Lee, sisters Jean Couch and Gayle Talley.
Survivors include a son Tom Dickerson and wife Cheryl of Granbury, daughter DeAnne Cartwright and husband Terry of Plano, grandchildren Eric Dickerson and wife Wendy of McKinney, granddaughter Dinita Willmann and husband Ben of Plano, grandson Phillip Cartwright and wife Susan of McKinney. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Abby and Hallie Dickerson, Kaylee, Ansley and Lindsey Willmann and Bennet and Leah Cartwright. Also surviving her are nephews Joe Bob Thompson and Bill Couch and their families along with several cousins and a host of friends.
Her years were spent working along side her husband in their businesses while serving her church, the Munday church of Christ, and the community in many ways. She had a lifelong passion for card games, especially bridge. During her life, she was a trusted friend, a tireless volunteer, an encourager and an accepting person who extended grace, mercy and love to all.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Munday. Memorials may be made to Johnson Memorial Cemetery Association in Munday, City County Library, the Munday church of Christ, a church of choice or The American Cancer Society.
