ABILENE—Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas is partnering with ISDs across the region in February to kick off “Celebrate Careers”, an initiative to encourage career exploration and workforce readiness in schools.
Participating schools receive a Celebrate Careers kit as well as instructions on how to implement region-wide career activities throughout the month such as spirit weeks, employability skills challenges, and social media contests. Celebrate Careers hopes to launch a “career culture” at each participating school district.
“Schools across the region are celebrating careers in February with the implementation of our Celebrate Careers kit,” said Career and Education Outreach Specialist Amelia Reeves. “The kit provides schools with tools and resources to encourage conversation about the student’s pathway to a successful career.”
Included in the kit are items to support the implementation of Celebrate Careers month such as career-focused games, posters featuring in-demand jobs and top employability skills, a banner to decorate schools with, and giveaway items to share with students and teachers.
Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas is also supplying low-prep bulletin boards and ideas for weekly challenges such as researching the labor-market and wearing your best interview outfit to school.
“We can’t wait to see the fun and unique ways schools use the kit to create a career culture on their campus,” said Reeves.
In December, 54 schools in the 19-county region signed the pledge to Celebrate Careers, which kicks off Feb. 1 and will continue all month long.
