Candidates wishing to file for positions on local city councils and school district and hospital boards for the May 2 election have until next Friday. Feb. 14 to make that known.
The Knox City/O’Brien Consolidated Independent School District will have four, not two, openings currently held by Clint Lewis, Scott Lynn, Joe Albus and Andy Shaver.
The Munday Consolidated Independent School District has three positions currently held by Sam Hunter, Mark Rocha and Nancy Birkenfeld.
The Benjamin Independent School District has two three-year terms with Kyle Emerson and Pate Menzer currently holding them plus an unexpired term ending in 2021 held by Tyler Weatherford and another post ending in 2022 because it was vacated by a resignation.
The Knox County Hospital District has two posts currently held by Shirley Gass and Joann Albus.
In Benjamin, council members Janet Reed and Charles Griffin will see their positions open for election along with the vacant mayor’s position. Reed has been serving as Mayor Pro Tem.
The mayor’s position in Knox City currently held by Gene Ward will be open in Knox City along with council seats currently occupied by J.R. Hodges, Gary Schnable and Fred Ledesma.
Council seats currently held by Vickie Huffman, Trey Harlan and Mel Coffman will be open in Goree. Mayor Greg Fix resigned earlier.
Positions currently held by Ryan Cottingham, Trey Singleton and Karen Longan will be open in Munday.
