SAN ANTONIO—Sydney Thompson of Munday claimed third place with her Duroc “Adam” in her swine division at the San Antonio Junior Livestock Show last week.
It marked the first time for Thompson, an active FFA member for four years who has been showing since she was in the third grade, to manage to place in the top 3 and make the Junior Market Barrow Auction last Friday. Adam brought $1,500 in that sale.
Mother Ronda explained the auctioneer was selling once bids got to $1,500 since they had to hurry because there were so many to sell “He ran them through like cattle in a cattle chute,” she said.
The Hampshire breed pig shown by Down syndrome teenager Samantha Nicole Islett of Lexington which took grand champ honors went for a record $157,000 plus a $10,000 scholarship.
Thompson, a senior at Munday High School who plans to attend Texas Tech University starting in the fall, indicated she has appreciated all the support and encouragement she has received from many in Knox County.
