WASHINGTON—U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry was presented with the Air Force Distinguished Public Service Award for his support of the military group’s mission last week.
The award is the highest public service award for citizens who have made a big contribution to the Air Force’s mission.
“He has never lost sight of Congress’ sacred responsibility to provide & care for servicemembers & their families,” according to the citation on the award.
The honor comes as Thornberry, R-Clarendon, prepares to retire in January 2021 after serving 26 years as the 13th Congressional District representative.
During that time, he has been heavily involved in defense policy as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, serving as chairman of the committee for four years and is now the top Republican on the panel.
