MUNDAY—LK Media announced that James McAfee retired as the editor of The Knox County News-Courier, effective Jan. 1. McAfee served in that capacity for six years and five months.
“We’re immensely appreciative to James for his work and dedication to The Knox County News-Courier. We hope retirement finds him well, and we look forward to his continued service to the paper and community,” noted LK Media management.
McAfee commented, “Nearing my 80th birthday, I just thought I wanted to slow down a little and not be as involved with the day-to-day operations, giving Betty and myself time to do a little more traveling if things improve with the vaccines slowing down the spread of the virus.”
McAfee will continue writing his weekly “Mac’s Views” columns, covering sports in Knox County and selling ads for the paper. Until LK Media can find another writer, he will also continue covering other local news. “Keep me posted,” he said.
The McAfees have no plans to move until their daughters decide they have other plans for them. “We love the laid-back style and all the friendly folks here,” he added.
