Blas Sosa, 93, of Munday, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born Feb. 3, 1927 in Hobart, OK to Martin and Maria Sosa. Blas had lived in Munday since his early teens. He served his country in the United States Army. He married Amelia Reyna on Dec. 3, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rhineland.
Blas did some farming in Munday, then later began working at Halls Blacksmith and Welding. In 1973 he bought the business which then became Sosa’s Blacksmith and Welding. It was his second home for more than 50 years, working well into his 80s. Blas was known not only for his welding skills but also his mechanic and carpeting skills. He built many utility trailers and BBQ pits which are now prized possessions. Blas was a hard worker, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. All of his grandkids called him “Popo” and he loved them unconditionally.
Blas was preceded in death by his wife Amelia Sosa; son Tony; grandsons Dennis Michael Eugin, Sgt. Eric Wayne Valencia, Joe Daniel Sosa and Joe Alan Phillips; and brothers and sisters.
He is survived by sons Joe Blas Sosa of Burnet and Albert Sosa of Wichita Falls; daughters Gloria and Michael Eugin of South Deerfield, MA., Martha and Bobby Ensor of Munday, Rosa Sosa and Ryan Offutt of Wichita Falls and Diana Sosa of Munday; thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 9 at McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday.
