Twyla Gayle Smith, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 at the age of 71. She was born April 20, 1949 in Vernon to John and Lois (Cantrell) Standlee. Twyla graduated from Knox City High School and went on to graduate from Draughn’s Business College. She worked at Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo and later at the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy. She retired early, moving to Lubbock to spend time and care for her grandchildren whom she called “the jewels in her crown” – Riley, Huston, Hutson, and Brady. On Oct. 25, 2017 she married Ronald Smith.
Twyla enjoyed music and square dancing. She was a talented sewer and quilter who not only made items for her family, but for those around her who had lost loved ones. She had a servant’s heart which kept her connected with high school classmates, former long-time friends, and she used social media to share all the memories of her family. Twyla will best be remembered for the love and time spent with her grandchildren outdoors, swimming and attending every event they had.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Ronald; children Angelique (Hadly) Weaver and Anissa (Adrian) Briseno, all of Shallowater; four grandchildren; many loving cousins; Kent (Trish) Sims; and brother Mack (Karen) Standlee of Plano.
Twyla was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Alesha Sims in 1974.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at Lone Star Cowboy Church.
