HASKELL—The Benjamin Lady Stangs, runners up to the Munday Mogulettes in District 16-1A, captured a 1A bi-district trophy, scoring a 48-30 victory over the Rule Lady Stangs, the No. 3 seed from District 15-1A, here Saturday night at the Haskell High School gym.
The win that improved their season record to 14-6 earned Benjamin a spot in the area round against District 14-1A champion Eula (18-6) when the game can be played.
Coach Cody Propps was pleased with the defensive pressure applied by the Lady Stangs, especially in the third quarter where they allowed only two from long range to increase their advantage from 18-13 to 35-19, putting the game out of reach.
“We moved the ball faster on offense with some good teamwork,” he added about the 17-point third quarter.
Valeria Zavala and Braleigh Blanchette led the scoring effort with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
In a preliminary bi-district game at Haskell, 16-1A No. 3 seed Electra lost by 58-32 to 15-1A No. 2 seed Roby.
