BRECKENRIDGE—The Munday Moguls, champions of District 16-1A, were knocked out of the Class 1A playoffs in the area round by the May Lady Tigers, 40-32, here last Monday night at the Breckenridge Fine Arts and Athletic Complex.
The loss left the Mogulettes with one of their best records ever at 23-4 for the season after finishing 22-14 last year when they were also eliminated in the area round, falling to Highland, 40-28.
Coach Richard Ramsey loses senior starters Carlie Willison and Alexa Roach and reserve Kendal Rocha from his seven-girl rotation, but will have starters Allie Willison, Karley Myers, Ellen Hunter and reserve Stephanie Scott returning.
The Mogulettes used an 8-0 run late in the first period en route to a 12-8 advantage going into the second period. They extended the lead to 15-10 before May scored seven straight points. Alexa Vegas’s 3 put them back ahead, but May scored late for a 19-18 halftime lead.
The senior-laden Lady Tigers, featuring five players who have played together since junior high, then broke away with an 11-2 run to start the second half, extending their advantage to 30-20. The Mogulettes couldn’t get any closer than six points at 36-30 and The Lady Tigers slowed down the pace by keeping the ball away and using the clock to protect their lead the rest of the way.
The Mogulettes did have a 21-11 edge in turnovers, but lost the battle on the boards, failing to get second chances after missing and allowing the Lady Tigers second, an even three extra chances, on the other end of the floor.
