KNOX CITY—Knox City High School senior Anthony Hernandez was named the District 15-1A Most Valuable Player by the district’s boys’ basketball coaches. His teammate Sam Barnard was honored as the sixth man of the year coming off the bench.
Greyhounds Gilbert Trevino was selected for the first team all-district, while teammate Austin Hacker was a second-team pick, and Tres Frausto and Cason Lewis were honorable mention choices.
Joining Hernandez, Hacker, Frausto, Lewis and Gilbert Trevino on the academic all-district team were Gage Morrow, Yuki Yano, Devin Guillory, Ryan Shaver, Nicholas Trevino and Bryson Callaway.
Matt Pillana of Rotan and Donovan Miller of Aspermont were selected as the offensive and defensive MVPs, while Justin Martin was named newcomer of the year.
In addition, a special Fighting Heart Award was given to Brianna Villanueva of Lueders-Avoca, who played on the boys’ team since the school didn’t have enough other girls to field a team.
