Knox plays aim for spots at state

Benjamin and Munday one-act plays will be vying for two spots in the state competition, scheduled April 29 in Round Rock, when they compete in the regional contest today at the Murphey Arts and Performance Hall in San Angelo.

Benjamin will perform “The Red Velvet Cake War,” a comedy based on a family reunion in Sweetgum, TX, right before Munday does around 3 p.m., hoping to get a third straight trip to state after advancing in 2019 with “The Effects of Gamma Rays on the Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds” and in 2018 with “Blithe Spirit.”

Making its 18th trip to regional, Munday will be performing scenes from “The Survivor,” a true story about teenagers in the Warsaw Ghetto in WWII, at 4:37 p.m. Friday. The teens started out smuggling food into their starving families and neighbors and eventually became a Jewish Resistance force who fought the German army.
