MUNDAY—The Munday Moguls knew they had to win the final 4×400 relay…and for Roby not to finish fifth or better…to win the area track championship at their own Phillip McAfee Memorial facility on Monday. They did just that.
Christopher Garcia grabbed the lead on the first lap, then Keon Taylor, Junior Martinez, and Christian Hernandez kept the Moguls there for a time of 3:45.35 to finish with 104 points. That was three more than Roby, which placed seventh in that race.
The Moguls will advance seven boys to the regional competition, scheduled April 23-24 at Angelo State University in San Angelo.
Jaxon Bowman advanced in three running events, finishing second in the 800 and 1,600 with times of 2:13.40 and 5:17.33, and third in the 3,200 at 11:44. He added to his 30 total points by finishing second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6.
Corbin Rogers and Kelton Carver claimed golds in the shot put (49-9.5) and pole vault (10-0), while Martinez and Hernandez also advanced in the triple jump and long jump. Hernandez also placed fourth in the 400 meters.
