Howeth to lead cheers for FCA sports events

By James McAfee

ABILENE—Gracie Howeth, a senior at Knox City High School, has been named as one of the cheerleaders for the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ summer sports all-star events planned for June 3-12.

Howeth served as a varsity cheerleader for KCHS for four years, competing with her team at the UIL State Spirit competition all four years where it earned two state runner-up finishes plus a fourth and a seventh place.

“We are excited for her,” said father Colin Howeth, who serves as superintendent of the Knox City/O’Brien Consolidated Independent School District. Mother Christie is the KCHS counselor.

In an interesting sidenote, her father had the honor of being an assistant coach in the football game in 2004. “That makes it even more exciting that she will be cheering in the same game this year,” he said.

The basketball game is scheduled June 3 in Brownwood, golf June 6- at the Kingdom Course at Solid Rock Camp in Eastland, baseball and softball June 11 in San Angelo and volleyball and football June 12 in Abilene.
