American Legion bikers lay wreath at Veterans Memorial

BENJAMIN – 232 motorcyclists participating in the American Legion Riders 2021 Legacy Ride arrived in Benjamin on Monday Aug. 23 and laid a wreath in a touching ceremony at the Veterans Memorial.  National Commanders Bill Oxford, Mark Clark and National President of the American Legion Auxiliary Nicole Clapp spoke about the sacrifice of American soldiers, with so many making the ultimate sacrifice.

County Judge Stan Wojcik joined the commanders in front of the memorial and also thanked American soldiers.  Judge Wojcik thanked the American Legion for the tribute on behalf of Knox County, then together the four presented the wreath in honor of all who have served.

“Thank you to the good citizens of Knox County for this magnificent memorial in the heartland of America” said Commander Mark Clark.  “We saw this wonderful memorial a few weeks ago when passing through and knew we must stop here today and thank you for building this.”

The riders were traveling from Rogers, AK to Phoenix, AZ to attend the national convention.  Triple-digit temperatures, highway construction and other delays are making the ride difficult, but their pride in being there was obvious in every rider.
