MUNDAY – Long time council member Ryan Cottingham notified the city council that he is resigning to spend more time with his family and business. The council accepted his resignation at the regular council meeting on Sept. 14 and thanked him for his service to the community.
The council will appoint an interim replacement to serve until the next election in May 2022. The council went into executive session to consider possible replacements, then tabled any action until further consideration when the regular session resumed.
Cottingham’s term would have expired in May 2022, along with the terms of council members Trey Singleton and Karen Longan, so there will be three council positions on the ballot in May.
The council voted to close the same streets to traffic as in the past to create a safe zone for Halloween trick or treaters. The streets closed on the evening of Oct. 31 will be South 7th from West Bowie to West Houston; West Houston from South 7th to South 9th; South 9th from West Houston to West Bowie; and West Bowie from South 9th to South 7th.
Due to increases in cost, the council passed the proposed increase in basic water/sewer/trash rate from $62.45 to $68.45, effective Oct. 1.
Other proposed changes to the enterprise budget and operating budget for 2022 were considered and approved.
Monthly financial reports and other monthly reports were reviewed and approved.
At the next council meeting Oct. 12, the policy on vacation time and comp time for full time employees will be reviewed, as well as other city business.
