BRYSON – The Knox City Greyhounds defeated Bryson last Friday with a Bryson of their own as the KC quarterback had a hand in five touchdowns as part of a 58-12 Hounds victory.
Bryson Callaway was 10-for-11 on passing with 171 yards through the air for three touchdowns. He also ran for 52 yards and had two TDs on the ground.
But it was the host Bryson Cowboys scoring first on a 15-yard touchdown for a quick 6-0 lead. Knox City’s defense blocked the point after, then Callaway got the points back on the next drive with a 17-yard rushing score. Moments later, the Hounds took a 12-6 lead when Callaway found Kobe Roberts on a 29-yard pass.
There were more fireworks in the first quarter as the Hounds and Cowboys combined for 38 of the game’s 70 points in the early going. Knox City’s Cameron Hernandez scored on a 63-yard run, with Kendale Smith getting the point after for a 20-6 Knox City lead.
The Cowboys answered with a 43-yard touchdown, only to have Tristin Baxter answer that on a 16-yard scoring run. The Greyhounds took a 26-12 lead into the second quarter.
The Hound defense shut out Bryson the rest of the way. Knox City would add 32 points in the second quarter while both teams went scoreless in the second half.
Callaway found Caleb Arrieta for a 41-yard score to make it 34-12 in favor of the Hounds. Baxter added to the tally with a 27-yard run, then Callaway ran for 27 himself moments later. Smith’s point after attempts were all good from here and suddenly Knox City was ahead 50-12.
Just before halftime, Callaway found Smith on a 6-yard pass for a TD and the 58-12 final score.
Knox City racked up 386 yards of offense (188 on passing) while Bryson was held to 170. Baxter led the Hounds rushing game with 84 yards on six carries, Hernandez had 62 on two carries and Callaway had 52 yards on three totes.
