(SPUR)_Time was, every county and community had a locally owned newspaper, eagerly scoured by all for births and deaths, sports and sales, and events and news local, state, and national. Today, there are fewer, and many of those have changed names, ownership or location over the years.

Walk Across Texas underway

KNOX COUNTY – The Walk Across Texas program kicked off Mar. 3 at the Knox City Golf Course and will continue to Apr. 28. The eight-week program is designed to help Texans be more active using a teambased approach.

Benjamin never surrenders, claims Regional title

March 2, Texas Independence Day, was a fitting date for the Benjamin Mustangs to earn a return trip to San Antonio after defeating Eula 57-44 in the regional championship game. This Mustangs team never gave up—not when they were held to eight points in the first quarter of a semifinal game, not when one of their starters played with the flu, not when the leading scorer was shut down, roughed up, and played with four fouls in the final quarter of the championship game, and not when the head coach’s wife was five hours away in a Dallas hospital.

KNOX COUNTY - With five candidates in the running on the Republican ticket for County Commissioner Precinct 1, it’s no surprise a runoff will be scheduled for May 28 between Kyle Bibb and Louis Baty. Bibb received 55 votes (22%) and Baty received 114 votes (46%).

Knox City VFD celebrates 100 Year Anniversary

KNOX CITY – The Knox City Volunteer Fire Department at 102 South Central in Knox City has served Knox City and surrounding areas for 100 years. Formed in January, 1924, the VFD began with one flatbed truck and some water hose and has grown to be the well-equipped, wellstaffed fire department it is today. The department is equipped to fight fires at residences, businesses, and range fires.

First Methodist Church in Munday holds garage sale March 2

The purpose of Daylight Savings Time (DST), the practice of advancing clocks during warmer months, is so darkness falls at a later clock time. For 2024, DST begins Sunday, March 10, at 2 a.m. and returns to standard time on Sunday, November3,2024.Thissavingstimeevent lasts for 240 days, about 66%, or two-thirds of the year.
