McDow named Childress area Engineer

CHILDRESS –Louis McDow III, P.E., was recently named the Childress Area Engineer by Childress District Engineer Darwin Lankford, P.E. Louis, a 2008 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, began his TxDOT career in the Ellis County Area Engineer’s office in the Dallas District.

Texans urged to join the fight against human trafficking

CHILDRESS – TxDOT is raising awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and working with other state agencies to help stop this horrific crime. During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in January, TxDOT is continuing its “On the Road to End Human Trafficking” campaign and working with other state agencies through the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Coordinating Council and the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force.

A young elementary student gets a journal for Christmas and starts to write down their daily happenings…who is their best friend, who is their crush, what they ate for lunch, or where they went on a field trip. Small writings now, but when they open this journal 20 years later, the memories flood back! As small and simple as these ideas may be, they are worth writing.

Filings now open to run for Munday city council

MUNDAY – The City Council met in regular session on Jan. 9 and addressed a short agenda. Elections for city offices are set for Saturday, May 4, 2024. Four seats on the City Council are up for election this May. Three are 2-year terms, incumbents are John White, Trey Singleton, and Karen Longan. One is for a 1-year term to complete the term, currently held by appointedincumbentLeroy Torres. To be on the ballot for one of these offices to serve the citizens of Munday, pick up a form at City Hall in Munday.

Update on human remains found in well in August 2023

MUNDAY – In a media statement from Sergeant Marc Couch of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Sgt. Couch stated that on Jan. 11, 2024, in Abilene, the Texas Rangers arrested 35-year-old Michael Macias of Abilene, in connection with the death of a person missing for nearly a decade. Earlier in the day, Macias had confessed to the murder of that missing person and told authorities the location where the person’s remains were concealed for eight years. The Texas Rangers were able to corroborate the confession with physical and circumstantial evidence.
