Sybil Mae Greenwood


Sybil Mae (Proffitt) Greenwood,99, passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 in Seymour. She was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Munday, to James Shelton Proffitt and Arabella Atalanta (Moore) Proffitt. Sybil and Ivan Pearl Straw on Dec. 14, 1941 in Seymour, and had two children Virginia Mae and Clifford Paul. She married William Bailey Greenwood on May 23, 1953. They were married 57 years.

Sybil was a retired LVN and worked for Knox County Hospital for 15 years. She loved to crochet and make quilt tops for all her grandchildren. She also made quilts for people in the care home. She enjoyed family ancestry and even wrote books about her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, Inez Benett, Stella Barnett, Jimmie Shahan, Jack Proffitt, Dorothy Smith and Tommy Proffitt.                                                 

Sybil is survived by her son Clifford Staw; five granddaughters Rhonda Molina, Paula Haynie, Patte Andras, Nadia Sorensen, and Nikki Garcia; grandson Bucky Decker; sister Bobbie Fuller; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at Johnson Memorial Cemetery with Joe Shahan officiating under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday.
