CHILDRESS - Tie Childress District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin a $5.7 million rehabilitation project on US 82 in King County. Tie project is slated to start construction on Aug. 23, 2022 with A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. as the prime contractor. Tie limits of the project are on US 82 from .5 miles west of SH 222 east to the Knox County line. The project is expected to be complete mid-March 2023, weather pending.
“Our project will rehab the East and Westbound driving lanes, followed by an asphaltic concrete pavement overlay of the entire roadway,” stated Munday Area Engineer Jared Groves, P.E. “To accommodate this work, motorists will navigate through lane shifts in the work zone. Tie regulatory speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph through the work zone.”
Groves reminded drivers to remain work zone aware when traveling through the area, which includes reducing your speed, obeying all posted warnings and avoiding all distractions in your vehicle. Traffic fines double in work zones when workers are present.
