MTC/BDC Bluebonnet Detention Center will focus on mental health and wellness through September as part of our Fit for Life initiative. We aim to help detainees understand and improve their mental health. Fit for Life has been very effective for our detainees and staff during the first two quarters of the year, as Bluebonnet has already implemented plans targeting healthy eating and fitness.
“Mental health is too often ignored or misunderstood,” says Warden Steve Mora.“Mental health is as important as physical health. We’ve designed a program to help our detainees and staff create lasting mental health improvement habits.”
The 2022 campaign has one area of focus per quarter:
• 1st Quarter – Healthy Eating
• 2nd Quarter – Fitness
• 3rd Quarter – Mental Health
• 4th Quarter – Environmental Health For the third quarter, we plan to hold several Mental Health Lunch & Learn sessions for our staff and similar information will also be available to detainees in the housing units.
Warden Mora adds, “We are pleased with the progress we have seen through emphasizing healthy eating and fitness this year. We will continue prioritizing improvements in mental and physical health.”
