The Knox City Houndettes competed in Benjamin’s Marlboro Man Memorial Tournament last Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13. The Houndettes had a rough start to the tournament, after ending pool play with a record of 1-2. The Houndettes fell to the Benjamin Lady Stangs and the Munday Mogulettes and topped Merkel in two sets. This record put the Houndettes in 3rd Place in their pool. To start out bracket play, the Houndettes fell to Hico in two sets. Knox City battled back in game two against Olney to beat the Lady Cubs. In the consolation championship game, the Houndettes matched up with Munday again, coming out on top this game and defeating the Mogulettes in two sets (25-18, 25-22).
After a successful weekend in Benjamin, the Houndettes hosted a dual match with Electra and Woodson on Tuesday, August 16. The Houdettes added two wins to their overall record after defeating Electra in three sets and Woodson in two sets. Sophomore Kinlee Eaton had a big night and ended the evening with 12 kills. Senior duo Rebecca Ruiz and Devon Hernandez followed closely behind her with a combined total of 10 kills. As the head coach, it is so exciting for me to see so much improvement from match to match. These girls are really learning their place on the court and learning how to work together.
The Houndettes travel to the Electra Grand Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Kinlee Eaton jumps for the spike.
