MUNDAY – At the regular scheduled meeting of the Munday CISD Board of Trustees on Aug. 18, the trustees heard from departments that the new school year is off to a good start.
Secondary principal Trey Singleton reported a total of 185 enrolled, with 93 in high school and 92 in junior high.
“The atmosphere is positive this year, with new coaches and band leader, and with all the other new activities, students are happy and positive,” said Singleton.
Elementary principal Kristi Bufkin advised enrollment is down slightly from last year, from 193 last year to 181 this year.
“We had an exciting first day, and we’re off to a good start,” said Bufkin.
Band Director Dr. Pettit said 42 students enrolled in high school band, and 48 reported for junior high band. The band will compete in a pre-UIL marching contest in Wichita Falls on Oct. 3, and go back to Wichita Falls on Oct. 15 for a UIL competition.
Ag Science teacher Jason Evans said 24 freshmen are signed up for Ag, with a total of 65 to 67 expected for this year. This will be the first year for an FFA barbeque team. The BBQ team will compete by preparing food in dessert, chicken, beans, and brisket judging. There is a chance for scholarships from the Texas BBQ Association if the team can place 3rd or better at state competition.
“We’re growing this year and excited about the projects,” said Evans.
Coach Webb Murphy said “The girls volleyball competition is in full swing and the girls are doing great.”
“The football team is staying healthy and doing better every day. We’re looking forward to this year,” said Murphy.
