Homer Keith Lowrance joined his wife in heaven on Oct. 23, 2024. Homer was born on Nov. 22, 1932, to John Franklin and Alice Rawlins Lowrance in Munday. He was the youngest of thirteen children. He graduated from Munday High School in 1951 and was drafted into the US Army in April 1953 near the end of the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Germany and achieved the rank of Private First Class. He was honorably discharged from the service in March 1955.
After returning home, he enrolled in Midwestern State University (MSU) and worked as a rotary driller in the oil industry. In May of 1957, he met Jacqueline Clowdis at MSU who was also from Munday. They were married on Dec. 22, 1957. He completed his education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, with a BS in Agricultural Education. His first teaching assignment was in Windthorst, in 1959. After two years, he accepted the Vocational Agricultural teaching position in Bellevue and continued to further his education. He attended Sam Houston State University on summer breaks to complete his Master of Science in Education degree in 1964.
In 1965 Homer accepted the position of Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Anton High School, in Anton. After remaining in Anton for 11 years, he taught at Littlefield High School for 22 years retiring in 1996. He received several prestigious awards and accolades throughout his teaching career. HewasnamedVocational Agricultural Teacher of the Year on multiple occasions and received many local awards and recognition from local organizations. After retiring from teaching, he and Jacqueline returned to their hometown of Munday. He became involved in the community, volunteered in many veteran’s programs and supported the local schools by utilizing his background to assist the vocational agricultural departments. He and Jacqueline also had a local business, Browse ‘n Buy, to continue to support the local economy.
Homer was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline of 56 years on June 1, 2014.
He is survived by his daughters Michelle and husband Richard Willette of CatSpring,Melissaandhusband Jeff Dutton of Houston; grandchildren Jarrod and wife Amanda of Colleyville, Kacee and Hannah of Austin, Lendon and wife Savannah of Houston, and Ali of Dallas; great grandchildren continue to add to his legacy, Audra of Colleyville, Lilah and Nixon of Lubbock, and Ella of Houston (a fifth great grandchild is due in December).
Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church Munday at 2 pm. Graveside services will be held immediately following at Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
