AL SCHUMACHER
HEREFORD—Alois “Al” Schumacher,84,ofHereford, passed away on Saturday, Aug 12, 2023, in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Celebrant Tony Neuschofficiating.Burialfollowed at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.
Al was born Sept.12, 1938, in Knox City, to Karl and Emma (Hannik) Schumacher. He has been a resident of Hereford since 1964. He worked for Curry Water Well Services and 20 plus years with Deaf Smith County. He married Sammie Lane in 2001, in Hereford. After Al’s retirement he still made it a point to drive around and make sure the “the County was still operating and in goodshape.”Alenjoyedvisiting and checking in with his buddies, even his friends at the nursing home. He loved playing dominoes, card games, watching westerns, Wheel of Fortune, baseball, and traveling with his wife. Some of Al’s greatest enjoyments in life were pranking his grandchildren, playing games with his children and grandchildren, and cheating justtoseeiftheywouldcatch him; playing bowling on the Wii game and never getting beat by his grandchildren and loving the quality time spent with his family whom he loved dearly. Al was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and on many Wednesdays, early in the morning, you could find him at church for the Day of Adoration. Al will be missed dearly.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Sammie Schumacher of Herford; son Karl Schumacher and wife Brooke of Cedar Park; daughtersKimberlyOrtizand husband Alejandro of Amarillo, Camille Lance of Lubbock; grandchildren Kianna Ortiz, Sethen Ortiz, Nevaeh Ortiz, and Alivia Ortiz; and sister Mary Ehly of Canyon.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joe, Albert, Carl, and Herman Schumacher; sisters Lucy Lindeman,andClaraKoetter.
