“Dad used to set type right here,” said David Harrison, one of the two Harrison scions who, back in the day, tidied up the shop, bundled and delivered newspapers, and did every other sort of task that needed doing while their mom sold the ads and kept the accounts and their dad processed film in the darkroom, operated the linotype, made the plates for the press, inked the rollers, ran the paper through, and gathered the finished sheets for the folder. He pointed to the spot on the old shop floor where the composing tables once stood.

USDA announces Conservation Reserve Program

COLLEGESTATION–The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that agricultural producers and private landowners can begin signing up for the general Conservation ReserveProgram(CRP)starting March 4 and running through March 29, 2024. This conservation opportunity gives producers tools to conserve wildlife habitat while achieving other conservation benefits,including sequestering carbon and improvingwaterqualityand soil health.

Bluebonnet hosts community relations luncheon

ANSON-At Bluebonnet Detention Center (BDC) in Anson, we take pride in being an integral part of the community of Anson and Jones County. Our commitment to being a good neighbor extends beyond our facility walls. We actively engage with local organizations, supporting community initiatives and striving to contribute positively to the well-being of our neighbors. We believe in building strong relationships and fostering a sense of unity and support within our community, reflecting our dedication to being a positive force for the greater good. One way that we engage community stakeholders is by holding a quarterly community relations luncheon at the facility. The most recent luncheon, held on Feb. 29, 2024, provided a platform for meaningful collaboration and fellowship among Bluebonnet staff and representatives from Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), Jones County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), Anson Independent School District (AISD) and Texas’ 19th Congressional District.
