Daylight SavingsTime starts this Sunday March 10

KNOX COUNTY – Time to spring forward again this Sunday and turn clocks ahead one hour to begin Daylight Savings Time. The purpose of Daylight Savings Time (DST), the practice of advancing clocks during warmer months, is so darkness falls at a later clock time. For 2024, DST begins Sunday, March 10, at 2 a.m. and returns to standard time on Sunday, November3,2024.Thissavingstimeevent lasts for 240 days, about 66%, or two-thirds of the year.

National, state, local primary elections slated for March 5

KNOX COUNTY – The candidates who have filed for the Republican and Democratic party primary elections on Mar. 5, according to the Secretary of State and county sources, are listed here. Voters in each party’s primary will choose their candidates for US President, US Senate, congressional and legislative offices, the State Board of Education, the Railroad Commission and judicial seats that will be on the ballot in the General Election on November 5.

Knox City and Benjamin City Council, School Board elections for May 4

KNOX CITY, BENJAMIN – After the final date to register to be on the ballot for the May 4th election, candidates for positions on the City Council and School Board have been determined. In Knox City, City Manager Dustin Bradley stated that three seats on the City Council are up for election.

2023 taxable property values comparison to 2022 values

DON THOMPSON | NEWS-COURIER KNOX COUNTY – Comparing the taxable property values from 2022 to 2023 for the individual taxing entities shows that except for four cases, overall property values went up approximately 6%. The four entities where values were lower were the county, hospital, and two school districts.

Burglary in Knox City

KNOX CITY – Chief Richard Candelaria reported the investigation is ongoing in the break-in at the Smoke Out Litz store in Knox City. The Knox City Police Department has a person of interest in the case but the individual is a juvenile so the police cannot release the name at this point.
