Cheryl Denise Crawford, 1954–2026

Body

Cheryl Denise Crawford, 71, of Munday, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, with her family by her side.

Born on December 10, 1954, in Knox City, Texas, to Ray Harlan and Mary Wynell (Albus) Harlan, she graduated from Goree High School in 1973, where she proudly played basketball and served as cheerleader where she cheered for the winning State football team.

On August 17, 1973, she walked down the aisle at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rhineland to marry her high school sweetheart, Gary Crawford. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of 52 years, building a life centered on love, faith and family.

Cheryl’s greatest joy and highest priority was her family. She was deeply devoted to her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was happiest when everyone was gathered under one roof, especially during the holidays. Cheryl loved her people fiercely and never had to be asked where she stood—she spoke her mind, said exactly what she was thinking, and never felt the need to sugarcoat it. She valued the simple things in life: the peace and quiet of home, time spent with those she loved, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

For 33 years, Cheryl faithfully served the citizens of Munday as the city secretary, where she became a familiar and trusted face to generations of residents. She took pride in her work and the community she called home.

Cheryl could often be found working in her yard with her plants. She took pride in growing her garden & flower beds. She also found peace at the lake, where she enjoyed fishing and spent many quiet mornings patiently waiting for a fish to bite.

Welcoming Cheryl into eternity are her parents, Ray Harlan and Mary Wynell Albus, and her brother, Gary Ray Harlan.

Her legacy lives on through her devoted husband of 52 years, Gary Crawford; her children, Brandi Underwood (Ben), Amanda Crawford (Jake), and Wesley Crawford (Mary) and her brother, Kent Harlan (Leann).

She will be forever remembered by her six grandchildren, Jaeda Carroll, Jaden Underwood, Alex Ratcliff, Brenden Underwood, Kylen Crawford and Brylee Underwood; her two precious great-grandchildren, Colsen Raper and Seager Carroll; along with nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.

Family and friends gathered for visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Johnson Memorial Cemetery.
