Busy Fall semester for RPTS continues

The Rolling Plains Technical School continues its busy fall semester. An Oxy-Acetylene Speed Cutting Competition was held on Sept. 8, 2023. According to RPTS Director Monty Moeller, the event was sponsored by Jason and Tamara Smart and family from proceeds from the Jaden Smart Memorial Fun Run in memory of Jaden Smart. The fun run was held at Rochester a few weeks ago. Pictured is Jason Smart presenting the first place winner, Niamiah Silvas of Haskell High School, a Weldcote welding helmet and gift card from KP’s Welding Supply. Additional placings were—2nd place-Trevor Henry of Haskell High School who received an RPTS T-shirt and 3rd place-Ryan Shaver of Knox City High School. The RPTS program appreciates the support of this family in honor of their son, Jaden.

A newsy picture of Pakistani President Arif Alvi caught my eye last week. He’s administering the oath of office to his new prime minister, but it’s hard to take Alvi seriously, because he’s got reindeer horns. That’s not to mention the Viking helmet horn on the left side of his head.

Pasta, a creamy sauce, and green peas are a scrumptious combination to help celebrate the end of summer. The peas give this dish a fresh burst of summertime flavor, and I can’t resist a creamy pasta paired with just about any other ingredient.

In a typical summer season, we would have an abundance of zucchini and other squash in our garden. However, for a couple of years we have dealt with squash bugs that have ultimately messed with our growing season. So my zucchini adventures have been few and far between lately.
