ROBERT LEE MOORE Robert Lee “Bob” Moore, 72, of Rhineland, passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, 2023.

On Sept. 7, 2023, Ethel E Birkenfeld, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, slipped her earthly bonds and passed into her eternal home after a brief illness. She was 99 years old, but when asked, she would tell you she was 94. If you corrected her, telling her she was 99, she would laughingly ask “Well, how did that happen?”

Eloise (Susie) “Mimi” Ray, 89, a longtime resident of Knox City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023. A graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Midway Cemetery in Hodges, with Greg Clonts officiating, under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

E.G. “Mutt” Ivie, 96, a longtime resident of Knox City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023. A funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at the O’Brien Baptist Church in O’Brien. Burial followed the service at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Munday.

THE HONORABLE DAVID COUNTS The Honorable David Counts, a former state representative, Grand Master of the Masons of Texas, and a Brigadier General (Brevet) in the Texas Army National Guard, died at his home in Midland Friday, August 18, 2023. Born to Walter and Alma Counts in Munday on July 14, 1936, David, officially named Walter David Counts, Jr., was raised and graduated high school in Rule.
