CHARLES GLENN CATO

Charles Glenn Cato, known as C. Glenn, passed away peacefully May 9, 2023 attheageof93. BornOct. 29, 1929, the son of Vergie Lockett and Charles Cato, he was the youngest son of their six children. His wife, Idalou Waggoner Cato, passed away in 2011.

C. Glenn is survived by children; Twyla Cato Mills, Terry and Donita Cato,Teena Cato Garvin, Travis and Denise Cato; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren: Kyle and Katie Mills with Willa, Kendra and Travis Deans with Zaeden, Livy and Mylah, Kelley and Tracy Cato with Maddie and Jake, Steven and Dacia Cato with Tanner and Luke, Shelley and Jason Streit with Caylor, Caylee and Cayson, John and Amilia Cato with Ethan and Eli, Kristi and Raegan Driskell with Ella, Matt and Jenny Garvin with Minda, Kaya, and Georgia, Chris Cato, Kelly Cato with Izell, Abigail, and Stella. Glenn was very proud of his grandkids and great grandkids. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, most of whom worked for him at some time during their lives.

Glenn served on Lockett and Vernon ISD School Boards; as a deacon in Lockett Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Vernon; on the boards of the Vernon Farmers Co-Op, Wilbarger County Appraisal District, and Production Credit Association.

Glenn began farming with his parents as a child. Glenn always had animals from a very young age and worked to improve his cow herd over 70 years. Even to the last day, he enjoyed watching his cows. As a junior in high school, he purchased his first farm and continued to farm and ranch, buying, selling, and trading land throughout his life. He involved the entire family in his farm/ranch operation, instilling an ethic of working hard. In the last few years, when he had visitors, he always told them, ā€œIā€™m blessed.ā€

The family especially appreciates the time and attention of Olga Ibarra in caring for Dad and his house for many years. The family wishes to thank caregivers Natalie Guggisberg and Doreen Lawson. A special thanks to Terry Rutherford for faithfully taking our dad to the ranch and wheat fields for years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Mr. Mike Klappenbach and Dr. Darrell Monday officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, May 12, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Baptist Church of Vernon or the charity of your choice.
