David Garren, 69, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Knox City. A memorial service officiated by Curtis Schrader was held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the First Methodist Church. Cremation services under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

David was born Oct. 13, 1953, in Liverpool, OH to Martha and Junior Garren. He worked as a paramedic in Houston. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science and worked as a Physicians Assistant in Alexandria,LA.He was proud of his Cherokee heritage and enjoyed learning about it from his grandmother who was full Cherokee. He married Ginger Garren on Dec. 31, 1998, in Abilene. He built a coffee house in Sweetwater. He co-owned two Sonics in Junction City and Salina, KS, before retiring due to health problems. He volunteered at the Knox County Historical Commission. While volunteering there, something he enjoyed so much, he made their beautiful calendars that he was so proud, David was always busy doing something different. He enjoyed life and new adventures.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ginger Garren; sisters Susan Clarius and husband Jay, and Rachel Ard; two “adopted” sons Abel Johnston and wife Laura, and Seth Johnston and wife Lacy; grandchildren Jolie Johnston and Drew Johnston; mother- in-law Doris Crownover; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martha Garren McCann and Junior Garren; step-father Linn Wood Mc-Cann; and brother Milton Garren.
