Rufugio Nunez 74, of Munday passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 24, 2024. He was born April 12, 1949 to Santos and Eulalia (Perez) Nunez. He and Juana Guerra were married Dec. 1, 1968. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rhineland.

Rufugio enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of his animals, working on his garden, plants and trees. He loved cookouts and being with his family. Being on Facebook was another of his favorite things. Also, going to dances.

He was a proud Dad and was always pushing his grandchildren to do great things in life. When his children were little they remember going to flea markets as their special Sunday trips. He would make the boys mow the grass every other day even if it was not needed, that’s just who he was.

Rufugio was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Jesus; greatgranddaughter Aubree; brothers Santos, Ignacio, Carlos, Guadalupe; and sister Rafaela.

He is survived by his wife Juana; daughters Silvia Marentes and husband Cruz, Maria Gonzalez and husband Jose, Esmeralda Nunez and husband Lucio, Sesilia Nunez and husband Harry; sons Rogelio Nunez and wife Christina, Rigoberto Nunez and wife Isa, Roberto Nunez and wife Crystal, Ramiro Nunez and wife Maggie, Oscar Nunez and wife Ashley and Miguel Nunez; 30 grandchildren Michelle, Yadi, Jose Jr., Carina, Beth, Kimberly, J.C., Jacquelyn, Ricky, Alex, Andrew, Abigail, Harry, Jazzy, Adrian, Catalina, Camila, Ariana, Christian, Andrea, Joel, Anthony, Gabby, Melanie, Julian, Matthew, Neela, Mia, Ava and Hunter; 16 great-grandchildren Isaiah, Hayven, Jax, Iverson, Sadie, Acen, Nova, Olivia, Ian, Emma, Allison, Azumi, Donovan, Andre, Amelia and one on the way; brothers Federico, Aurelio, Miguel, Jesus and Martin; sisters Maria, Rosa, Estela, Carmela, Elvira and Patricia; and also a host of other family and friends.

A Rosary was held Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Mass was held Thursday, March 28, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery under the direction of McCauley- Smith Funeral Home.
